I’d like to use this article to clarify my previous nine entries. Over the course of a few weeks, I have written nine semi-biographies of several individuals from human history. Why have I done this? Boredom mostly, but it goes a little deeper than that.
First of all, I would like to swiftly summarize and link to the previous entries;
- Achilles, Hero of the Trojan War. Achilles was to enter myth as the greatest warrior ever (for his time anyway), unrivalled by none in prowess or beauty and also quite insane.
- Sun Tzu, author of the Art of War. He wrote the book on war. And also, he was a great general.
- King Leonidas of Sparta. Leonidas would be made immortal after his actions at the battle of Thermopylae where he and 300 Spartan soldiers famously stood against 1 to 800+ odds.
- Alexander the Great. Baddest of the Bad, Alexander conquered himself a kingdom stretching from the corner of Greece all the way to somewhere in the middle of India. He is famous for being undefeated in battle.
- Hannibal, Bane of Rome. Hannibal who in a true fanfare of general capabilities led his troops over the Alps to the heart of Italy where he waged war on the Romans for more than 10 years without reinforcements (and still winning).
- Julius Caesar, whose very name became synonymous with ‘Emperor’. Caesar arguably single handedly brought down the Roman Republic through combining brilliant military tactics, political manipulations and oratory skills and reforged it into the Roman Empire.
- Temujin, Genghis Khan. Son of a minor tribe elder that would become the emperor of the largest empire ever in the history of man.
- Napoleon Bonaparte, Emperor of France. A great general who rose from minor nobility to badass emperor.
- Jack Churchill, most awesome man of World War 2. He was a commando officer during WWII fighting with bow, arrows and a sword.
Now why did I pick these nine individuals? Mainly because all of them excelled in their particular field and used their skills and prowess to carve their name amongst the billions of others. It just happens that their fields of expertise happen to be death, destruction, warfare, political manipulation and strategy. However, it works and that is why we still remember them today. Similarly, they are also great sources of inspiration. I find that most non-mathematical questions can be answered by truthfully answering yourself the question “What would Alexander/Caesar do?” because you can be damn sure you come up with the best answer for the situation.
With that, it should be clear that I consider conquering (a significant part of) the world desirable. All under the guise of the turning Wheel.
Henceforth, I leave the 10th Hero open for future applicants. Better hurry, but I plan to claim it myself.
