Before we continue, I feel it is my duty to point out that I am an atheist. So if you are one of those religious fanatics that refuses to read anything produced by heathen hands, you probably would not have gone to a site with both vicious and evil in its name, which makes you a hypocrite sinner! Unfortunately for you, it’s already too late to click away and Satan/Shaitan/whatever will claim your soul regardless.
Now that we have cleared that nasty issue, I would like to point out the paradox that I absolutely adore mythology. Be it ancient Greek, Persian and Aztec or modern Christian, Islamic and Hindu beliefs and morals. There is one in particular I like more than the rest, the Christian cardinal sins.
We all know what sins are, or at least have a general idea (go buy a dictionary), but these cardinal sins are something special. Also known as the seven deadly sins, they are seven thought patterns that the Christian God does not like. Can you name them? Probably not, here they are:
- Luxuria
- Gula
- Avaritia
- Acedia
- Ira
- Invidia
- Superbia
Roughly translated they correspond to lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and vanity respectively. Now according to the Christians, these are bad. And for once, they are right. We find these sins all throughout the world nowadays. Perhaps it is because moral has dropped and apathy has increased; but it seems more likely that sinful behaviour has always been a dark part of us. Modern media, like the internet and television to some extent, know of this and take great pleasure in shattering our hopes in humanity by carefully displaying (and advertising!) the wrongs of mankind in the form of ‘reality shows’ or ‘youtube movies’. I mean, seriously, one more ‘show’ for lack of a better word about some goddamn celebrity’s lifestyle or another happy slapping movie and I just might start burning down houses.
In the following days I will present to you a few articles detailing one or two of these flaws in mankind. In the meantime, try not to be a total dick to your fellow men.
